The Truth about Movement!

Since the early times man was born and adapted to constant movement all throughout life. We had to hunt, gather, climb, run, jump, swim, throw, and swing all kinds of things and different activities to get food. If you could not get food you would not survive, it was super simple, but also really dangerous. The stress levels we were used to were MUCH higher. Imagine getting chased by some kind of wild animal, or chasing that animal for lunch in these times? Not fun.

Fast forward tens of thousands of years and all our food is basically gathered and grown in mass quantities for us. All food is shipped in containers and placed nicely on shelves for our picking. There is no more need, for most of us, to go out and try and kill or risk being killed/maimed by an animal anymore. All our naturally ability to do these necessities is not needed anymore, but is it really? The era is now one of less worrying about being killed by a wild animal or hunting for food. It is a much safer and stress free environment in that aspect. However, in getting rid of those aspects of our lives we created other different kinds stress in our new environment.

We stress about meetings, work, social life, environment and more. Since we are not used to stress, we feel as though our bodies are crumbling. Fortunately exercise is a great method to implement to help nullify some of those reversed effects on our bodies. Just how much exercise should we be doing on a daily basis? Well there are one hundred and sixty-eight hours in a week. We spent most of the time back then, moving around, and using our natural movement as best as possible. It is only fair to say that in order for the stress levels to be reduced and our movement to get better we need to move more often. Whatever movement you do in your daily life that is what your body will think it needs to do to survive, so it will adapt. Your body is always trying to stay in homeostasis because that is.... how we stay alive! The more stress levels you can handle the easier it will be to handle lesser stress. The more movement you do throughout the day, the stronger your body will be in different planes of motion.

Being mobile might not necessarily mean going to the gym seven times a week and working out. You could be going to the gym and moving terrible in comparison to what your daily movement ranges are. Let us say you go to the gym seven times a week and you work out the maximum amount you can, which will be three hours a day (I have never seen anyone workout longer, let alone seven days a week at that, and if you do please stop!). If you calculate that it is only twenty one hours a week, you still have 147 hours in the week to mess it all up. I am not a math whiz or anything but I am certain that twenty one hours versus one hundred and forty seven loses every time. Now the goal I ask you, what do you think it is? You are absolutely right, move as much as possible to close the gap between the bad movement and good movement, or try to do similar movements in the gym that coincide with your daily life movements. Picture if that gap was now sixty eight hours of movement versus one hundred, you are definitely in a much better position!

Let's get out there and get moving folks!
